摘要: A microcalorimeter for aerobic growth studies, derived from a Tian Calvet differential apparatus, was successfully constructed. The calorimetric vessel short cylinder, which permitted good exchange between the surface area and gas phase. time constant of calorimeter 3.6 min sensitivity 234 V/W. thermochemical aspect Escherichia coli on succinate, acetate, glucose investigated. This analysis revealed that contribution biosynthetic reactions varied with substrate used strongly influenced heat evolution. experimental metabolic enthalpy change in agreement predicted value succinate growth. To explain discrepancy two values observed acetate we suggest metabolism may generate by-product not further oxidized.
