KEMET Academy: A University Outreach Model for Addressing the Wholeness of Learning in a Rural Context

摘要: This work introduces a model of university outreach in rural communities which promotes increasing post-secondary options for dwelling African American youth. KEMET (Knowledge and Excellence Mathematics, Equilibrium, Technology) Academy is comprehensive academic enrichment program targeting students enrolled under-resourced schools across Alabama’s Black Belt region. The group comprised 48 intermediate level four counties. Drawing upon professors representing two land grant institutions, faculty engaged Scholars activities designed to enhance skills reading comprehension application, mathematics, science, computing, decision-making, as well health wellness during two-week summer tri-monthly “Saturday Academies” annually, over five year period.
