Epoxide group relationship with cytotoxicity in withanolide derivatives from Withania somnifera.

摘要: Withania somnifera is one of the highly reputed medicinal plants India. Its steroidal constituents exist in form two major substitution patterns, viz. withaferin A (1) and withanone (5). Withaferin with oxidation at carbons 4, 5, 6 considered as an active type, especially anticancer, whereas withanones 6, 7 rarely show any activity. We prepared a series derivatives modifications ring B these withanolides to study role epoxide group towards cytotoxic property bioactive steroids. have converted into respective thiiranes, amino alcohols by selective reactions were evaluated for vitro anticancer activity against four cancer cell lines structure relationships. The transformations type showed moderate reduction their cytotoxicity almost inactive shown some improvements alcohol derivatives.
