Characterization of Substance Abuse Patients Presenting for Treatment at a University Psychiatric Hospital in Cairo, Egypt

摘要: Objectives This study was designed to assess the patterns and severity of drug alcohol problems a group patients presenting for treatment at substance abuse program in Egypt. Methods A total 268 with drug/alcohol were interviewed Ain Shams Institute Psychiatry Cairo over period 1 year (2005 2006) using Arabic version Addiction Severity Index, 5th edition. One hundred sixty during intake session other 108 within first week their admission program. Results In past 30 days before program, 30% reported medical problems, 38% employment 9% illegal activities, 62% serious conflicts families, 37% people, 64% one or more psychiatric symptoms. The major problem heroin 52% patients, opiates 23%, drugs, including alcohol, remaining 25% patients. Conclusions Opiates most our representing 75% cases, whereas barbiturates, stimulants, hallucinogens, inhalants rarely found be Injection significant users that needs addressed programs.
