摘要: There is a rapidly growing body of literature on the theory about ecosystem service concept and practical assessment services in different contexts ranging from natural to urban environments. Yet, where does reach its limits? This paper critically reflects application environments illustrating handling structures (incl. built-up areas) risk that normative principle could be missed. It shown refer variety concepts. As starting point for assessments, these classified into natural, managed, constructed overbuilt systems. Since concepts do not directly specific definition, but biophysical processes, all classes included. However, dependency context scale makes differentiation in  challenging. We conclude limits environments, represent an extreme case characterized by multifunctionality high degree modification enables uncover research challenges applying any environment. need more transparent reporting theoretical methodological assumptions facilitate comparability between assessments. Comprehensive approaches consider multiple include human input, modification, status as well their interactions are required understand spatial relations delivered ecosystems.
