摘要: Iron deposits demonstrate characteristically shortened T2 relaxation times. Several previously published studies reported poor correlation between the in vivo hepatic 1/T2 measurements made by means of midfield magnetic resonance (MR) units and iron content iron-overloaded patients. In this study, authors assessed use obtained MR imaging at 0.5 T using short echo times (13.4 30 msec) single-echo-sequences as well computed tomographic (CT) attenuation a measure liver concentration 10 severely patients with beta-thalassemia major. The concentrations surgical wedge biopsy samples liver, which varied 3 9 mg/g wet weight (normal, less than or equal to mg/g), correlated (r = .93, P .0001) preoperative measurements. CT did not correlate concentration. Quantitative is readily available noninvasive method for assessment patients, reducing need needle biopsies liver.
