A survey of school nursing provision in the UK

摘要: Aim.  This paper is a report of study to map school nursing provision across the health and education sectors in Wales identify number, age, qualifications, terms employment, location, functions access continuing professional development clinical supervision nurses. Background.  School nurses are important promoting school-aged children. Increased demands have arisen from changes patterns health, illness lifestyles. Methods.  An interview survey was conducted with purposive sample nursing/health visiting managers 13 healthcare sector providers, senior personnel officers 22 Local Education Authorities 45 head teachers/school independent schools. Data were collected between March June 2004 overall response rate exceeded 80%. Results.  A total 249 identified: 90% employed by 10% sector. ageing, under-developed under-resourced service identified. Disparity practice within evident, resulting lack policy direction regarding scope content services. Workforce size, age educational profile pose challenges for delivery. Conclusion.  Investment recruitment required if meet increasing fulfil their public role. The low percentage aged under 30 years may reflect career pathway understanding nursing. findings enable national international comparisons numbers, size caseload, employment activities functions.
