摘要: Marine diatoms negatively affect reproduction and later larval development of dominant zooplankton grazers such as copepods, thereby lowering the recruitment next generations these small crustaceans that are a major food source for fish species. The phenomenon has been explained in terms chemical defense due to grazer-induced synthesis oxylipins, lipoxygenase-derived oxygenated fatty acid derivatives. Since this first report, studies about diatom oxylipins have multiplied broadened toward other aspects concerning bloom dynamics, cell growth, differentiation. Diatom embrace number diverse structures recognized signals ecological physiological processes many organisms. In diatoms, most studied examples include polyunsaturated aldehydes (PUAs) nonvolatile (NVOs). purpose chapter is provide analytical tools deal with identification, analysis biosynthesis compounds. Emphasis given identification enzymatic steps characterization species-specific lipoxygenases even absence availability molecular information.
