摘要: Changes in the activity of sympathetic nervous system or hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis have been extensively used to evaluate pain induced by castration tail docking numerous species. Such data are missing pigs. Therefore, three experiments were conducted determine effects castration, docking, tooth resection on stress hormones. Glucose and lactate also measured because catecholamines stimulate mobilization glycogen, which results glucose release. In Exp.1, 18 male pigs from seven litters (two per litter) catheterized surgically into one jugular vein, under general anesthesia, at 5 6 d age. Two days later, they submitted either bilateral control handling, no handling (n = group). Blood samples collected before (- 15 -2 min) after (5, 15, 30, 60, 90, 180 experimental treatment. Exp. 2, 27 female 12 (one four clipping with pliers, a grinder apparatus, 7 group) 1 3, 17 nine following treatments: 1) an electric-heated scissor iron, 2) 3) Castration significant (P < 0.05) increases adrenocorticotropin hormone (ACTH; 60 min), cortisol (from 90 30 min). These variations indicative tissue damage castration. contrast, neither nor had marked plasma cortisol, ACTH, glucose, lactate. Measurements lactate, ACTH could be useful for validating treatments designed relieve distress reaction
