摘要: Background: Musa sapientum (banana) plant extract has been shown to possess antioxidant activity in previous studies. Neuronal injury resulting from oxidative stress is an important factor involved pathogenesis of epilepsy. Objective: The present study aimed evaluate the anticonvulsant M. stem (MSSE) acute and chronic experimental models mice its effects on various markers brain pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-kindled animals. Material Methods: Maximal electroshock seizures (MES) PTZ-induced convulsion were used for For study, effect MSSE development kindling was studied. evaluation brain, malondialdehyde (MDA) reduced glutathione (GSH) levels estimated brains kindled Results: significantly increased latency onset myoclonic jerks duration clonic convulsions following PTZ administration. pretreated group showed mean seizure score kindling. There a significant increase MDA decrease GSH response On pretreatment, there brains, though not significant. Conclusion: results this suggest presence MSSE, both models, which could be due activity, as reflected by change brain.
