摘要: We calculate the thickness of surface scattering layer, defined as region where electron inelastic is affected by surface, using semi-classical treatment energy loss provided Chen–Kwei theory. To this end, we consider depth-dependent, surface-related contributions to inverse mean free path, namely, excitation plasmons and reduction in bulk plasmon (Begrenzung effect). find that effects extend further after electrons cross than before they it. The ‘pre-surface thickness’ given ratio velocity plasma frequency, characteristic decay length for effects. All estimates increase linearly with decrease (cosα)x angle α between trajectory normal.
