摘要: Abstract – Neonate ungulate often show high rates of mortality due to predation, starvation, or exposure bad weather, leading losses frequently exceeding 50%. Wild boar piglets are known suffer from thermoregulation insufficiency, which probably explain the nest construction behaviour in sows. We thus tried develop a method for tagging inside their farrowing (or birth) assess piglet survival few days after birth onwards. Sows fitted-out with VHF collars were radio-tracked determine parturition time, and get rough idea possible location. Then, handled antenna we approached on foot nest, caught, tagged backpack transmitter released nest. Temporal movements mother litter association monitored, as long possible. Results sow tactic against human approach, body mass, reaction, early lifetime described.
