摘要: The killing of jaguars by ranchers in Amazonia and the Pantanal is a major threat to species. We used Theory Planned Behavior examine role ranchers’ perceptions, norms, attitudes intentions concerning jaguar killing, determining their jaguar-killing behavior. also investigated influence of: (1) descriptive norm social identity on intention kill properties; (2) effect perceptions impact human livelihoods (livestock safety), property size, variables that kill. Results based interviews with 268 cattle indicated livestock not only predictor rancher’s jaguars. Fear, personal motivations, internal external barriers (e.g. lack skills force law, respectively) can killing. relative importance these factors varies region affluence. recommend ways deterring behavior through communication interventions. In addition economic legal incentives have already been considered conservationists, effective strategies protect privately owned land will need address psychological determine ranchers. Conservationists find support make unprofitable illegal, but socially personally unacceptable.
