摘要: Abstract Large carnivore management is typically a source of heated controversy worldwide and, in the Americas, jaguars (Panthera onca) are at centre many human–wildlife conflicts. Although findings suggest that social, rather than economic, factors important reasons for why humans kill jaguars, few studies focus on stakeholder attitudes towards jaguar conservation beyond quantifying livestock depredation. Yet insights from other large conflicts demonstrate importance political landscape and conservation. To explore extent to which views about aligned with institutional arrangements, we conducted analysis among personnel working key institutions central Brazil. Using Q methodology, identified three perspectives focusing on: A) jaguars’ intrinsic right exist; B) wider ecocentric values; C) contesting jaguar-focused The groups all accepted jaguar’s fundamental exist agreed it was establish protected areas jaguars. Yet, diverged regarding desired distribution Brazil, hunting policies, effects development projects These differences their underlying motivations consider successful strategies
