摘要: Abstract Work carried out under the European COST 61a Project on homogeneous oxidation of sulphur compounds in atmosphere is briefly reviewed. Mechanisms for dioxide can be divided into three classes; 1. (a) by free radicals generated photochemically, 2. (b) intermediates produced thermal reactions, and 3. (c) direct photo-oxidation. Only makes a substantial contribution to SO2 with calculated maximum rates between 2 6% h−1 sunlight irradiated urban air during summer months 1–2% unpolluted air. Most brought about attack OH radical but RO2 not well determined due uncertainties rate constants. H2S, CH3SH (CH3)2S react giving atmospheric life-times 1 day.
