Medium-to-high prevalence of screening-detected parkinsonism in the urban area of Tehran, Iran: data from a community-based door-to-door study.

摘要: Introduction Parkinsonism occurs in all ethnic groups worldwide; however, there are wide variations the prevalence rates reported from different countries, even for neighboring regions. The huge socioeconomic burden of parkinsonism necessitates need studies each country. So far, is neither data registry nor information on Iranian population. aim our study was to estimate rate probable a urban area Iran, Tehran using community-based door-to-door survey. Materials and methods We used random multistage sampling households within network health centers consisting 374 subunits 22 districts throughout entire Tehran. Overall, 20,621 individuals answered baseline checklist screening questionnaire 19,500 persons aged ≥30 years were entered final analysis. Health care professionals new six-item parkinsonism, which has been previously shown have high validity diagnostic value same Results A total 157 cases screened validated questionnaire. After age sex adjustment based population, calculated as 222.9 per 100,000. Using World Organization's Standard Population, standardized 285 100,000 (95% confidence interval 240-329). male:female ratio 1.62, significant increase by advancing age. Conclusion closer reports some European Middle Eastern higher than Asian African populations, lower Australia. >200 Tehran, Iran could be considered medium-to-high rate.
