摘要: When the flax fibers (machine tow) were treated with KMnO4 solution, MnO2 was deposited over-all fiber surface. The amount of relied on concentration. Subjecting flax-containing to a solution consisting monomer (acrylic acid, AA) and citric CA (or any acid used in this work) resulted formation poly(AA)-flax graft copolymer. Dependence polymer criteria, namely, total percentage conversion (%TC) carboxyl content grafted various grafting parameters, viz., concentrations redox pair as well AA, material-to-liquor ratio (M/R), duration temperature polymerization, kind pretreatment studied systematically. results indicated that polymerizability AA molecules, expressed %TC (i.e., counting both homopolymerization) thence evaluating extent along backbone) optimized following conditions: [AA], 100% (based weight fibers, owf); [CA], 0.4 meq/1 g flax; [MnO2], polymerization temperature, 40°C; time, 30 min; M/R, 1 : 50. A tentative mechanism for using MnO2-acid system elucidated. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 102: 3028–3036,
