The progress of reactions of 1a–f with thionyl chloride (3 mol excess) and catalytic amount (6–10 mol %) of pyridine (Scheme 1) … The spectrum of aliquots drawn at the end of 4–5 h of refluxing showed complete disappearance of signals related to ester chlorides.
