摘要: Abstract The involvement of pituitary prolactin (PRL) in systemic vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP)-induced sleep was studied. Male rats were implanted with electrodes for EEG-recording, brain thermistors to record cortical temperature (Tcrt) and chronic intracardial catheters obtain blood samples deliver substances. One group (n = 8) received normal rabbit serum (NS) + physiological saline (SAL) on the baseline day injected NS VIP experimental day. In other 6), followed by administration PRL-antiserum (PRL-AS) sera or SAL 30 min before at light onset, respectively. Sleep-wake activity then recorded next 12-h period. Systemic VIP-stimulated PRL secretion as measured RIA serial obtained hour 1 postinjection. also elicited selective increases REM (REMS) pretreated NS. Tcrt not affected VIP. Administration PRL-AS blocked increase circulating levels free (non-IgG-bound) prevented VIP-enhanced REMS. Comparisons effects previously reported changes after alone indicate that has a major role mediation REMS-promoting results suggest an increased release endogenous modulates
