Mesenchymal to Epithelial Conversion in Rat Metanephros Is Induced by LIF

摘要: Inductive signals cause conversion of mesenchyme into epithelia during the formation many organs. Yet a century study has not revealed inducing molecules. Using standard model induction, we found that ureteric bud cells secrete factors convert kidney to that, remarkably, then form nephrons. Purification and sequencing one such factor identified it as leukemia inhibitory (LIF). LIF acted on epithelial precursors by expression Pax2 Wnt4.
