摘要: Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is an exciting new modality in therapy. The head and neck region ideal target for this technology several reasons. First, IMRT offers the potential improved tumor control through delivery of high doses to volume. Second, because sharp dose gradients, results relative sparing normal structures region. Third, organ motion virtually absent region, so, with proper immobilization, treatment can be delivered accurately. Although a relatively technology, preliminary studies show excellent dosimetric profiles clinical results. Salivary gland has also resulted reduced incidence severity xerostomia. Early reports improvement better side effect versus conventional techniques are promising, but will need confirmed longer follow-up.
