摘要: When and how people first settled in the Americas is an ongoing area of research debate. The earliest sites typically only contain lithic artifacts that cannot be directly dated. lack human skeletal remains these early contexts means alternative sources evidence are needed. Coprolites, DNA contained within them, one such source, but unresolved issues concerning ancient taphonomy potential for contamination make this approach problematic. Here, we use fecal lipid biomarkers to demonstrate unequivocally three coprolites dated pre-Clovis human, raise questions over reliance on methods, present a new radiocarbon date basketry further supporting occupation.
