On Two Metaphors for Learning and the Dangers of Choosing Just One

摘要: This article is a sequel to the conversation on learning initiated by editors of Educational Researcher in volume 25, number 4. The author’s first aim elicit metaphors for that guide our work as learners, teachers, and researchers. Two such are identified: acquisition metaphor participation metaphor. Subsequently, their entailments discussed evaluated. Although some implications deemed desirable others regarded harmful, neither speaks against particular nor tries make case other. Rather, these interpretations applications undergo critical evaluation. In end, question theoretical unification research addressed, wherein purpose show how too great devotion one can lead distortions undesirable practices.
