摘要: Abstract Cortisol concentrations in the saliva of two groups (N=5/group) prepubertal pigs were measured by radioimmunoassay. Samples collected home pen under normal husbandry conditions and after a 24 h period when food water withheld. The then transferred to transport simulator, which was left stationary (control) or set motion (experimental), further samples taken 1 later before animals returned their pens. In following week, mixed over 3 period. also 2 days had been injected with maximally stimulating dose adrenocorticotrophin (ACTH). Transport simulation deprived animals, mixing, produced salivary cortisol levels similar those seen ACTH. Food deprivation alone increased secretion whereas non-deprived no effect. These results indicate that estimation offers non-invasive means measuring stress responses unrestrained pigs.
