摘要: Postembryonic changes in the dermal and epidermal pigment cell architecture of striped nonstriped morph Japanese four-lined snake Elaphe quadrivirgata were examined to reveal stripe pattern formation after hatching. The morphs distinguishable at hatching, suggesting that basis was formed during embryonic development. In morph, color stripes changed from red-brown juveniles vivid dark-brown adults, density melanophore increased much more than background dorsal scales with growth. This increase accompanied not only by but also change vertical structures melanophore. By contrast, evenly over morph. Thus, vividness hatching is achieved through localized particularly region whole scales.
