When is a little knowledge dangerous? Circumstances of recent heroin overdose and links to knowledge of overdose risk factors

摘要: Abstract Objectives To describe the circumstances surrounding recent heroin overdose among a sample of survivors and links to their knowledge risk. Methods A cross-sectional survey 257 non-fatal was undertaken examine self-reported risk reduction strategies, behaviour in 12 h prior attributions causation. Results Most overdoses occurred public spaces as result use within 5 min purchasing drug. substantial number with no one else present and/or involved concomitant other drugs. While at least prevention strategy reported by 90% sample, less then half knew any single strategy. Furthermore dangers mixing benzodiazepines alcohol associated an increased likelihood such being overdose. Conclusions users can articulate key this not generally behaviours but some cases reports behaviours. Further research is required order better understand paradoxical effect, focussing on education amenable social contexts which takes place.
