摘要: Abstract Retention volumes have been measured for a variety of inorganic and organic (both aliphatic aromatic) bases on quaternary ammonium functionalized styrene-divinylbenzene stationary phase using dilute sodium hydroxide as eluent. The retention behaviour the some could be explained basis ion-exclusion effects alone, with strong (which are cationic at eluent pH) being co-eluted column void volume very weak neutral sum inner volumes. Solutes intermediate between these extremes were eluted in order increasing p K b1 their varied by changing pH. A mixed mechanism involving hydrophobic adsorption steric was observed other amines. Aromatic amines found to retained almost solely reversed-phase interaction solute unfunctionalized regions phase. For such solutes, manipulated most easily addition acetonitrile
