摘要: OBJECTIVE--To determine whether the inhaled glucocorticosteroid budesonide has any adverse effect on short term linear growth in children with mild asthma. SETTING--Outpatient clinic secondary referral centre. PATIENTS--15 aged 6-13 years normal statural velocity during previous year, no signs of puberty, and use systemic or topical steroids two months before study. DESIGN OF INTERVENTIONS--Double blind, randomised crossover trial active periods which was given divided daily doses 200 micrograms 800 micrograms. During run washout placebo given. After second period received open treatment 400 daily. All were 18 days9 duration. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE--Growth lower leg as measured twice a week by knemometry. RESULTS--Mean 0.63 mm/week 0.64 mm/week. Budesonide associated significant dose related reduction velocity: mean 0.11 (95% confidence interval -0.15 0.36 (0.13 to 0.59) (p less than 0.05; Page9s test). 0.17 (-0.10 0.45) found. CONCLUSIONS--Treatment is suppression
