摘要: The discovery of the human T-cell leukemia/lymphoma virus (HTLV) family retroviruses represents culmination a search that dates back more than 50 years, stimulated chiefly by fact leukemias and lymphomas in animals are often caused (Poiesz etal. 1980; Gallo Wong-Stall 1982). Since first isolation HTLV 1979, 100 isolates retroviruses, representing three distinet classes, have been reported from many laboratories world (Popovic 1983b; Haynes 1983; Miyoshi 1981; Kalyanaraman 1982b; 1984). All these an affinity to infect mature T cells are, therefore, said be T-lymphotrophic. classes termed HTLV-I, HTLV-II HTLV-III. HTLV-I has most thoroughly charac- terized molecular clinical perspective found associated with certain forms leukemia/lymphoma, description which will major focus this review (Blatnner et al. 1982; 1983a; Blayney 1983c). recently isolated, its relationship disease is unclear, although obtained single patient hairy cell leukemia some patients acquired immune deficiency syndrome (Kalyanaraman Hahn al., press). In latter case, it likely isolations represented passenger viral infections, given recent HTLV-III as etiological agent for (AIDS) (Gallo features class viruses reviewed elsewhere volume.
