How can Cooperation be Fostered? The Cultural Effects of Individualism-Collectivism

摘要: Studies of cooperation are abundant in the social sciences, but organizational researchers calling for integrating numerous conceptions and meeting new challenges cultural differences. In this article we develop a culturally contingent model cooperation. We differentiate various mechanisms from cooperative behaviors theorize about how culture affects behavioral through mechanism selection or modification. Delineating effects, derive patterned differences instrumental expressive motives individualists collectivists propose six contrasting mechanisms. Finally, discuss directions future research consider implications practice.
