摘要: Summary Rapid industry-led growth in East Asia over the past three decades has resulted deteriorating air and water quality, escalating energy use attendant increases greenhouse gas emissions, other serious environmental concerns. Current efforts to strengthen regulatory institutions are many cases overridden by scale effects of urban-industrial growth. We examine policy approaches that support a shift toward an alternative trajectory economic development is less energy, materials, pollution intensive. Given large proportion capital stock developing market economies yet be built, we argue influencing intensity new industrial investment both critical opportunity imperative. Our research indicates need for greater integration environmental, technology policies within region. Such should link reductions materials upgrade capability Asia.
