摘要: Five methods for studying food habits of large African carnivores are evaluated. Fecal analysis is useful a basic description the diet, provided that an adequate sample scats can be obtained. However, it impossible to quantify amount eaten and determine proportions killed versus scavenged food. Tracking spoor in restricted habitats most species, except brown hyena (Hyaena brunnea). Opportunistic, radio-location observations biased towards prey animals, because small animals quickly, leaving no trace. data used study sex age selection adult prey. Direct provide accurate measurements consumption rates, killing frequency, selection, they carried out without disturbing predator or Mixing from incompatible techniques must avoided.
