Isolation and characterization of Streptococcus mutans in heart valve and dental plaque specimens from a patient with infective endocarditis.

摘要: Streptococcus mutans, known to be an aetiologic agent of dental caries, also causes infective endocarditis (IE), although a comparison isolates from the oral cavity and infected heart valve same patient has not been reported. In present study, plaque samples with IE were analysed. Broad-range PCR DNA sequencing revealed that 50 clones composed streptococci periodontopathic bacteria, whereas only mutans was detected in valve. Eighteen strains isolated seven valve, biochemical properties each accordance those mutans. fingerprinting analysis all had similar patterns, which different Western blotting using glucosyltransferase (GTF)-specific antiserum showed lacked three types intact GTF. addition, sucrose-dependent adhesion rates these significantly lower than (P<0.001). Furthermore, less susceptible erythromycin kanamycin. These results indicate typical strains, may related effects IE.
