摘要: In humans, partial-thickness cartilage lesions frequently result in premature osteoarthritis. While rabbits often are used as a model for lesions, the natural course of surrounding such lesion is largely unknown. We developed rabbit chronic defect and asked whether these defects led to (1) deterioration macroscopically microscopically (increased Mankin score) (2) disturbances proteoglycan metabolism. 55 rabbits, we created 4-mm-diameter on one medial femoral condyle. The was characterized during 26 weeks. Contralateral knees were sham-operated. experimental knees, found softening fibrillation at 13 High scores observed 1 week partially restored weeks but worsened later most pronounced groups worse when compared with sham groups. improved Disturbances metabolism less evident. this model, resulted early markers degenerative changes resembling human situation.
