摘要: This paper reviews efforts to incorporate cultural considerations on sexual and gender identity disorders in DSM-IV. An initial literature review revealed very few sources that met the criteria of relevance for DSM constructions disorders. Cultural caveats were included introductions dysfunctions paraphilias, but not Discussion Culture Diagnosis Work Group's suggestions revision shows that: (i) we more successful at getting culturally insensitive statements eliminated from preliminary drafts than sensitive final document; (ii ) although considered important, any challenge basic nosological assumptions underlie categories themselves went unheeded.
