摘要: Background Both high body fat and low muscle mass have been associated with physical disability in older adults. However, men women differ markedly composition; generally more absolute relative lean less than women. It is not known how these anthropometric differences differentially affect ability women. Objectives This study examines predictors of performance men. Methods Participants were 470 72.9 (7.9) years age. Body composition was measured using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Maximum leg strength power a press. Muscle quality (MQ) calculated as (leg press per kilogram mass). Gait speed chair rise used to assess mobility functional strength. Results Body index (BMI), age, MQ emerged (P < 0.05) somewhat differently. After accounting for age sample, related time gait but BMI both women, only women. Conclusion Results implicate the prioritized importance healthy weight maintenance maintained functioning aging.
