摘要: Histologic sections of the human temporal bone display snapshots entire lifetime integrated into moment enters fixative. The bulk literature on vestibular histopathology is anecdotal and descriptive in nature, rather than quantitative. This because means describing measuring patients' symptoms are poorly developed, complex geometry labyrinth complicates efforts to study it serial histologic sections. Histopathologic findings common peripheral vestibulopathies, including Meniere's syndrome, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, viral labyrinthitis, neuronitis, ototoxicity, have all been described. A new quantitative method for assessment otopathology using Nomarski optics has recently reported. It successfully applied create a normative database age-related changes hair cell populations which, turn, used effects aminoglycoside ototoxicity syndrome. These data provide first meaningful opportunity make structure-function correlations between function testing pathology humans. Wider clinical application postmortem donation should be promoted by investigators interested accumulating resources necessary gain deeper understanding system health disease.
