摘要: We examined the prevalence of chronic sinusitis among children who presented to allergy clinics with (> or = 3 months) respiratory symptoms. Ninety-one patients, ranging from 2 17 years age 62% male and 72% white, completed study. Fifty-nine percent patients had positive skin test results, 25.3% asthma. Paranasal sinuses were by coronal sinus computed tomographic scan. Sixty-three (58 91) sinusitis, 5.5% (5 concha bullosa, 1% (1 foreign body, 19% (19 deviated nasal septums. Among symptoms sneezing, congestion, postnasal drip, coughing, wheezing, rhinorrhea, headache, no single symptom was an acceptable predictor abnormality on scan examinations. Combining moderate severe rhinorrhea cough minimum sneezing a specificity 95% sensitivity 38% in predicting presence sinusitis. Allergic rhinitis (p 0.27), mild septum 0.11), unobstructive bullosa 0.13), passive exposure cigarette smoke 0.53) not risk factors associated abnormalities. Age (r 0.30, p 0.004) pediatric factor significantly abnormalities Seventy-three 6 age, 74% 10 older than sinusitis.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
