In vitro polyploidization of Mecardonia tenella, a native plant from South America

摘要: Mecardonia tenella is an herbaceous plant widely distributed in the temperate region of South America. Both architecture and flower size are characteristics that can be improved to become a viable new ornamental plant. Chromosome doubling by use agents such as colchicine available methodology this end. Nodal segments from vitro grown plants M. were submerged following doses 1% (v/v) dimethyl-sulfoxide (DMSO) solution (%, v/v): 0.0, 0.001 0.01 (24 48 h). The DNA content regenerated was measured flow cytometer. A total 68 tetraploid detected out 126 treated plants. flowers leaves bigger compared those wild diploid type (control). Under field conditions, selected showed more compact shape than control
