摘要: Dermatan and chondroitin sulfate glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) comprise over 90% of the GAG content in ligament. Studies their mechanical contribution to soft tissues have reported conflicting results. Measuring transient compressive response biphasic material parameters tissue may elucidate contributions GAGs viscoelastic deformation. The hypotheses current study were that digestion sulfated would decrease stress aggregate modulus while increasing permeability porcine medial collateral ligament (MCL). Confined compression relaxation experiments carried out on MCL treated with chondroitinase ABC (ChABC). Results fit a constitutive model derive modulus. Bovine articular cartilage was used as benchmark verify apparatus provided reliable removed up 88% from Removal increased nearly 6-fold versus control tissues. Peak decreased significantly. exhibited typical reduction resultant decreases increases ChABC digestion. Given relatively small amount (<1% dry weight) significant change peak upon removal GAGs, play role maintaining apposition collagen fibrils transverse direction, thus supporting dynamic loads experienced by during complex joint motion.
