Angular Dependence of Scattering from Escherichia coli Cells

摘要: The scattering of visible light from randomly oriented systems heterogeneous E. coli cells in water was measured as a function angle for 10–90°. are assumed to be prolate ellipsoids revolution whose dimensions independently measured. For these cultures the average cell volume and axial ratio is 0.6 μ3 2.81, respectively. Using dimensions, Rayleigh-Debye approximation homogeneous ellipsoid used calculate theoretical scattering. A newly developed equation coated also used. Both models lead good theory–experiment agreement, especially model. absolute position two observed minima wavelength dependence positions excellent agreement with predictions. existence attributed uniformity their minor axes.
