摘要: Introduction Although most patients wish to be fully informed about bad news such as a diagnosis of cancer, significant minority prefer no or minimal information. We examined the value asking their disclosure preferences at outset hospitalization Methods Consecutive admitted respiratory and geriatric unit were asked whether how they would told cancer Alzheimer disease Results Of 207 interviewed, 174 (84%) wanted dementia; proportion who did not differ between older (89 108 patients; 82%) younger (85 99 86%; p=0.34). Thirty (15%) sought reassurance during after interview, 13 (6%) reported that had been bothered by questions. patients, dementia was diagnosed in 23 (11%). Preferences for nondisclosure honored 20 (87%) Conclusions Seeking regarding truth is helpful feasible everyday practice, results can used clinicians improve communication with families accordance patients' own wishes
