摘要: The finding of consistent tone-segment alignment in many languages recent research raises questions about the temporal organization speech sounds general. In this paper we explore possibility that tonal patterns can lead to discovery basic principles speech. Based on a segmentability approximants English and Mandarin, propose general model organization, which syllable is time structure specifies consonants, vowels, tones phonation registers. All these are unified under term phone defined as collection unidirectional articulatory movements toward simple or composite target. phones temporally organized by three principles: co-onset initial C V, sequential offset coda C, full synchronization tone register with syllable. Under model, true coarticulation, strict sense co-occurrence separate phones, occurs only between V; there no anticipatory V cross- consonantal V-to-V carryover coarticulation any kind.
