摘要: When patients enter hospital they may have to stop smoking abruptly if the has a 'no smoking' policy. Abrupt cessation can affect metabolism of drugs. Cigarette induces activity human cytochromes P450 (CYP) 1A2 and 2B6. These enzymes metabolise several clinically important drugs, including clozapine, olanzapine methadone. Decreased CYP1A2 after increases risk adverse drug reactions, with reports increased toxicity from clozapine olanzapine. Predicting required dose reduction drugs metabolised by is challenging. Therapeutic monitoring should be used when possible. Nicotine replacement therapy does not influence activity.
