摘要: OBJECTIVE To evaluate the usefulness of immunocytochemical staining on breast fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology as a routine procedure for determination estrogen (ER) and progesterone (PR) receptor status. STUDY DESIGN FNA material from 864 patients was immunostained ER PR using Abbott ER/PR-ICA kits. Percentage stained nuclei, intensity pattern evaluated. In 259 cases comparison with biochemical assay possible. RESULTS Of cases, 75.6% were positive 65% positive, 61.6% both positive. Approximately 4% smears inconclusive because scant cellularity. Concordance between immunostaining method 84% 71% PR. Kappa values 0.61 0.4, respectively. Major discrepancies found in 7.7% specimens. CONCLUSION Inconclusive due to cellularity is minor problem. Technical difficulties are few, false negative rarely seen. The results comparable those method, ER/PR cancer useful determination.
