Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of Yemeni Women Attending Primary Healthcare Centers in Sana’a City towards Family Planning

摘要: Objective : To investigate the knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAPs) of Yemeni women attending primary healthcare centers (PHCCs) in Sana’a city towards family planning (FP). Methods A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted among three PHCCs Sana'a city; namely, Hadah, Al-Soneinah Madhbah zones, between 21 November 1 December 2011. The included a sample 281 married women, where data about socio-demographic characteristics KAPs FP were collected by interviewing using pre-designed, structured questionnaire then analyzed appropriate statistical tests. Results: Of Sana'a, majority respondents from urban areas (96.4%; 271/281), aged 25–29 years old (23.1% 65/281), employed (75.8%; 213/281) with or secondary levels education (60.9%; 171/281). In addition, had marriage length 6–11 (65.5%; 182/281) 3–4 children (44.8%; 126/281). (89.7%) knew FP, 60.2% considered it as birth spacing. Moreover, most (87.5%) aware at least four methods 53.6% heard modern contraceptive methods. them, 85.9% 74.0% pills intrauterine devices (ICDU), respectively; however, known method use male condoms (28.1%). Healthcare providers source information on for (60.5%). believed that optimum spacing births should be two years, being 31.7% 38.8%, respectively. (80.8%) both couples must share decision-making FP. Socio-cultural beliefs values thought to common (57.3%) barriers practice Conclusions Although seeking after have good level knowledge several traditional their preference long spacing, such is still limited ICDU. Therefore, attention paid health benefits other alternative better lifestyle, well-being.
