摘要: Background The prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) is substantial and increasing. Stroke common in AF can have devastating consequences. Oral anticoagulants are effective reducing stroke risk, but underutilized. Objective We sought to characterize the impact on patients their caregivers, gaps knowledge perspective between physicians patients, barriers communication optimal anticoagulation use. Methods A survey was administered with without history stroke, caregivers survivors, across range specialties caring for patients. Results While (n = 499) had limited about they expressed great desire learn more take action reduce risk. They were often dissatisfied education received desired high-quality written materials. survivors 251) poor functional outcomes underestimated burden them. Caregivers 203) also wished information risk before survivor's event. commonly felt overwhelmed socially isolated. Physicians 504) did not prescribe as frequently recommended by guidelines. Concerns monitoring patient compliance reported barriers. may underestimate willingness anticoagulants. Conclusion identified significant among relation stroke. Furthermore, lead suboptimal decision making. Increased better all stakeholders needed AF.
