摘要: Objective. Anxiety and pain even in minor procedures are still great problems pediatrics, not least pediatric oncology. Conscious sedation is indicated when other means to overcome a child9s fear fail. The aim of this study was investigate whether intranasal administration midazolam given before insertion needle subcutaneously implanted central venous port could reduce anxiety, discomfort, pain, procedure problems. Method. Forty-three children with cancer participated randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover which nasal spray, .2 mg/kg body weight, compared placebo. Children, parents, nurses completed visual analog scale questionnaire evaluate efficacy. Results. Parents reported reduced for the group would prefer same medication at next procedure. They also reduction. Children anxiety but reduction discomfort significant. No serious or unexpected side effects occurred. Nasal most common effect (17/38≈45%) primary reason dropouts (8/43≈19%). varied age gender. When increased, differences between placebo increased. Conclusion. spray offers relief anxious about procedures, such as intravenous port, blood sampling, cannulation, etc. Its use, however, may be limited by some patients whom rectal oral routes might alternatives.
