摘要: Abstract Background Rotavirus is a leading cause of childhood morbidity and mortality worldwide. Clinical trials for two rotavirus vaccines recommended by the WHO global use since 2009 have successfully demonstrated safety efficacy these in wide range countries. To control burden severe fatal diarrheal disease, Ministry Health Morocco introduced single strain vaccine into their national immunization program 2010. Methods We employed standard case definition to identify children under 5 hospitalized with AGE at four hospitals from June 2006 May 2010 establish baseline disease before introduction vaccine. Stool samples were collected tested using enzyme immunoassay. Results Overall, 40% (741 1841) positive rotavirus, making it most common gastroenteritis among Morocco. Applying this prevalence estimates hospitalizations deaths Morocco, we estimate that annually causes 19,646 1604 years age. Discussion On basis surveillance data, 1 389 Moroccan died 32 was due fifth birthday. A considerable proportion should be preventable through vaccination, 4 stable prevaccine will tremendously useful platform assessing potential changes epidemiology measuring impact new
