摘要: Influences of extreme phases the Southern Oscillation (SO) phenomenon, El Nino and La Nina events, on seasonal rainfall Sri Lanka are examined by using composite maps sea-surface temperature (SST) anomalies. There were 27 22 during period from 1881 to 1990. Positive negative anomalies south-west monsoon (SWM) season associated with but positive linked events second intermonsoon (SIM) season. These contrasting patterns dominant in dry zone Lanka. Rainfall first (FIM) north-east (NEM) seasons do not show clear as other values. On basis wettest 20 per cent, mid-20 cent driest years total rainfall, SST over Pacific Indian Oceans made. As patterns, FIM NEM contrasts between events. During SWM season, wet (dry) (positive) central eastern west Oceans, opposite found ‘maritime continent’. SIM (negative) continent’. Based results this study previous studies synoptic circulation dominance intraseasonal oscillation, a plausible explanation is given for larger © 1997 Royal Meteorological Society.
